What's New, What's Next: Mid-February Edition

Update: Another server hiccup midday Monday. Apparently these are going to continue until the new servers come online. I'm working to pressure our server guys to make our new servers available to me today so we can get the process started. Cross your fingers, we'll be there soon! Original post follows... Haven't had a chance to update for awhile, figure it's probably high time for a couple notes on what's new around the farm and what's coming up next.

What's New

The two major themes from the past few weeks have been to gussy up this joint (Category Showcase, home page HPLs), and to ensure we're more than a pretty face (fixing the geocoding (see last blog), and slowly get our new servers ready for the unveiling). While the home page hand picked lists are admittedly still coming together, we've heard a ton of positive feedback about the early returns. Mark and I share this enthusiasm, given the improved cohesiveness of the page that is many users' first impression of Bonanzle. A couple more improvements we'd like to add for the home page HPLs in the coming days and weeks: 1) allow buyers to cycle through the lists in an easier way (they're so pretty, who can resist the temptation to keep hitting the refresh button? well, that's a pain) 2) increase the total number of lists that are chosen from on the home page (currently there's about 25).

What's Next

The major objective of the coming week will be the aforementioned completion of getting our new servers online to hopefully alleviate a few of the downtime issues that have plagued the Nanzle over the last few days. After a month of nary a hiccup, the current servers are finally starting to show some of the stress they've been under... but won't be for much longer. Our thanks in advance for your patience if there happen to be future hiccups in the week to come, we're trying to get our move completed as quickly as possible. We then plan to snipe a couple more items off of the Next Up list, starting with the surprise favorite, "selective buyer blocking." If you haven't already voted, do it now. We'll also be continuing to improve the help documentation in hopes of making Bonanzle easier to pick up for youngsters, while maybe even freeing Mark for long enough to smell the air outside his home. But I'm not making any promises.

Good to see the handpicked lists featured on frontpage are still being improved upon.
YEP, clicking refresh is a PITA & most first time visitors won’t know that they even can.
Perhaps a little banner up top of it, letting folks know how to see more, or letting them know the page will auto refresh in ** seconds so they can see more?

One of the things I like about ’Nanzle is that it loads & opens fast.

I’m on dial up, as are many others, and one of the biggest killers of enthusiasm for me is when I go to a site, and it takes forever to load and open.
Hope the new servers will help keep things moving along and humming.

Thanks to you & Mark & the whole crew,(all 4 of you ) for all your hard work and dedication to the entire group of Bonanzle residents.

Really enjoy looking at the front page now. I asked a girlfriend (who had been turned off by the page before), to take a look. She gave it the thumbs up!

Must admit I was in LIMBO over the HPL’s on the front page BUT it does look more polished and we do look more spiffed up…as far as breathin fresh air I hear that comes in a spray can NOW so you will have to look for some in a booth here !
HUG for the updates

Well, I’ve said it before, I like the rotating lists on the Home Page and I actually didn’t mind refreshing the page.
Can’t wait to see the new stuff you have lined up!
It’s always exciting and good!

Poor Mark! Maybe we can chip in and buy him a tent to pitch in the backyard? Is that close enough to outside air? lol
J/K Mark.

I must say that I am amazed and relieved by the very pleasant transparency of this site- Even for a technonincompoop like me, it is amazingly simple to use and everyday I see a feature that is new to me. Keep on keepin’ on!!

Is there a way already in place to see the number of actual hits our items are getting daily? One in the works? Also, are we allowed to place any of our own items in handpicked lists to at least try to make sure we get a little exposure? I used to have an item that came up in the first format that got a number of people clicking to look at my items. That has nearly dropped off now. How can we make sure that we get a little exposure if those featured lists choose to never include our items?

Not trying to be a pain in the patootie. Just wondering how to be seen.
